How many times have you promised yourself that you would eat healthier?
Bought the veggies and threw out the junk. Prepped the meals and carefully counted the calories. You held strong. Until you just couldn’t take it anymore.
Then you binged. Raided the kids’ candy stash. Made a batch of cookies and ate them all – with what was left of the cookie dough you inhaled. Thoroughly abolished the calorie deficit you carefully planned.
And then, you felt guilty. Like not even a trip to confession and three Hail Marys could absolve you of your nutrition sins.
Accurate? I know I’ve done it. And I know lots of my clients have done it. But here’s the good news: eating healthy doesn’t have to be so hard. Or flavorless. Or unenjoyable.
In fact, we were created to enjoy food, good food even. And hell, even wine! Just not too much. Or too little (we will use the saints as examples of what not to do in the pursuit of God in this case).
The truth is, our bodies are sacred.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV
But instead of honoring the sacred temples that they are, we treat them more like dumpsters.
I’m not saying this to make you feel guilty – it took me a LONG time to realize that my approach to eating was more scavenger than spiritual. I’m saying this because good nutrition is about more than just macronutrients and calories. It’s about shifting your mindset and creating a whole new approach to food.
One that views food as so much more than fuel and regards eating as a sacred act.
Mystic Rose Nutrition is for Catholic moms who want a healthier relationship with food – one that honors God and themselves. One that recognizes food and cooking and eating as a gift to delight in and share with others. One that makes maintaining a satisfying weight easy and even enjoyable. One that fits within your budget without taking up all your free time.
Buon appetito!
Oh hey, I’m Nina, BTW.
Catholic Mystic. Wife. Mom of four. Nutrition coach (through Precision Nutrition so I am actually legit), I’m obsessed with miniature horses, hence my very own sweet sassy mini, Simone.
Back in 2008, I started a blog to share my journey to getting out of debt despite having just quit my job after giving birth to my third child. That blog grew to become a top 15 natural living site.
It was there that I fell in love with simplicity and natural remedies. That’s when I switched to real food to save money and discovered the power of good nutrition (goodbye nightly stomach ache). It’s also where I came out of the closet as a mystic. As you can imagine, some of my more conservative Christian readers didn’t like that. Oh well.
In the last nearly 20 years (yikes!), I’ve done a lot of training, gotten a handful of certifications, but most importantly, grew a lot in my relationship with God and as a person and I’m delighted to see how all of my talents, gifts and passions have coalesced into my mission: it starts with food.
